The responsibility for sustainability and recycling shouldn’t be placed entirely on the consumer. At Excel Packaging, we have embarked on a rewarding journey towards a more sustainable industry by becoming a member of the Pet Sustainability Coalition. PSC is a pet industry collaborative that accelerates environmental and social sustainability throughout the industry through education, implementation tools, and creative collaboration.
As a member of PSC, we are committed to implementing sustainable business practices that minimize our impact on the environment and the communities where we do business. Sustainability is a critical component of any successful business strategy and are proud to say that we are taking steps towards a more sustainable future for our customers and the community at large.
Sustainability holds great significance for people in the packaging and plastics industry. We contribute to the creation of plastic products; therefore, we in part need to be held accountable in making sure they are properly recycled. At Excel, we are dedicated to finding a way to help our products become part of a “circular plastic economy” where packaging doesn’t become waste, but instead serves as “nutrients” for new products. By taking the first steps toward this circular plastic economy initiative, we hope to do our part in raising the recycle rate which is currently at 14%.1
As part of our commitment, Excel is adopting a set of companywide principles that revolve around our dedication to sustainability. Employees are encouraged to engage in the mission of sustainability, which is essential to creating an internal system where employees are held responsible for helping to achieve our sustainability goals. We won’t stop with employees though, partners and suppliers will be held to higher standards as well.
These principles also affect our customers. We want to give them what they are asking for; new and improved materials that offer continual improvements and refinements.
