The Excel Packaging team loves to give back to the community whenever we can. Not only is it an important value in the company, but we also enjoy the experience of coming together to do some good in our own neighborhood! Excel has been partnering with the Orange County Rescue Mission since 2013. We regularly donate funds and time to help the organization in its mission of providing food, shelter and other services to the many disadvantaged people in Orange County. So, we are very proud to announce that we recently donated and set up some gym equipment at the Rescue’s new Tustin Veterans Outpost!

The Tustin Veterans Outpost provides housing and much-needed services to homeless veterans. The Rescue opened the Outpost in Summer 2016, upon renovating an apartment complex in Tustin.  It is OC Rescue Mission President and Veteran Jim Palmer’s mission to make sure that any homeless veteran who wants to change his or her life has the opportunity to do so. As he put it, the Tustin Veterans Outpost “will be the place where they can find the relief, restoration and empowerment each homeless veteran needs to fully transition to civilian life.”

Heavy-duty set up made easier through teamwork

When CEO Mike Sommers heard about this new addition to the OC Rescue Mission, he immediately knew we needed to help however we could. So we decided to donate gym equipment for the residents to use! We donated a full set of free weights, boxing gear, workout bike, and resistance training equipment. We also took some time to get out of the office and set up the equipment in the new Outpost facility together. As Jim Palmer put it, “this generous gift means so much more than simple exercise equipment; the ability to exercise and maintain physical health is so beneficial to mental and emotional restoration as well.” We are so happy to have been able to provide some of the resources these Veterans will use to transition back into their communities as civilians.

We had to make sure all the equipment was working properly, too!

The team had a great time working together to do some good! It’s all part of Excel Packaging’s commitment to our community. It’s why we consistently supports charitable organizations like Second Harvest, OneMeal (a group that provides meals for children around the world), Orange County Rescue Mission, and others.
