This holiday season, the packaging experts at Excel are teaming up once again with the Village of Hope to give back to those in need in our community! This time of year is known as the season of giving and we are really getting to live that through our involvement with the Village of Hope. We volunteer with our friends at the Village throughout the year and it’s always a rewarding and humbling experience to help serve others.
In mid-November, we helped sort through food donations that would end up being distributed to families in need just in time for Thanksgiving. Donations included mashed potatoes, pumpkin puree, cranberry sauce, gravy, all sorts of veggies, and lots of other great Thanksgiving holiday musts.
On Thanksgiving Day, OCRM hosted their 6th Annual Turkey Trot OC 5K Run/Walk. What was usually an easy run was made just a bit more difficult by the pouring rain and unseasonably cold temperatures that came through Orange County this fall. Nonetheless, plenty of runners and walkers showed up to help raise money for feeding the needy at this special time of year. After the race, the Village of Hope prepared a special Thanksgiving meal for its residents.
Last year during this time of year, 117,559 pounds of food were donated to the Village of Hope and 235,659 meals were served to homeless men, women, and children between October and December 2018. This year, OCRM and the Village of Hope are on track to do even more for the homeless and hungry of Orange County!
As we wrap up this year, we can look back with a lot of gratitude for all the wonderful opportunities we’ve had to spend time together giving back to our community. All in all, we’ve donated 155.5 volunteer hours and tens of thousands of dollars to the Village of Hope throughout 2019. And we’ll be giving just a little bit more before the year is done! Last week, we went back to the Village of Hope one more time, to help set up for their Christmas event coined “Magic at the Mission.” We sorted through gift donations to help set up a shopping spree for the children, where they will “shop” for presents for their parents. It was another very rewarding experience!
Giving back is one of the many things that makes working at Excel Packaging so rewarding! Stay tuned in the New Year for more updates. The team at Excel wishes you all a warm, safe and joyful Holiday season!
